Festival Fun

It is time to welcome in the month of June with its warmer weather and longer daylight hours. Now that life is getting back to normal, we can begin to start planning some summertime activities. Many people will be getting back to attending festivals this year.

There is a saying, “the greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals”, (Siddharth Katragadda).  This is certainly true in Texas where so many cultures mix and mingle.  This is a perfect time to take in the culture of a particular area of Texas you may be considering for future land purchase.  Here are a few festivals happening across the great state this summer.

·         The Fishin’ Fiesta at the Freeport Municipal park in Freeport, TX July 1st – 4th – The fishing tournament is one of the largest on the Gulf and includes prizes for both offshore and inshore categories. It also offers carnival rides, food, live entertainment, dances, arts and crafts and a fireworks display.

·         Comicpalooza at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX July 17-18th – Texas’ largest pop-culture festival draws fans of art, celebrity, comics, films, gaming and literature. Visitors can browse art and handcrafted goods from local and visiting artists, peruse comic books, collectibles, toys, clothing, and other niche products.

·         31st Annual Texas Blueberry Festival downtown Nacogdoches, TX June 12th is described as, “a delightful day of the America you dreamed still existed”.  It boasts being the only state-sanctioned blueberry festival in Texas. There will be entertainment, arts and crafts, food and activities all through the day. Get there early! Hours are from 8am to 4pm.

·         AIA Sandcastle Competition on East Beach in Galveston, TX August 21st – come witness over 60 teams stretched along the beach front, meticulously sculpting their piles of sand into works of art. The winner takes home the prestigious Golden Bucket Award!
